Reading your buyers perspective and search strategy was so interesting to me as someone on the seller side of the coin 🫣 I feel like I’m peering into a new world, one that was fascinating and very enjoyable!
Fascinating, indeed! I didn't even think about how my approach might look to someone on the other side of it all -- curious to know what stood out to you?
The very detailed approach to keywords and filters! I don't do much buying online these days for the shop, but when I did I took a very broad approach and spent more time sifting for things that were mischaracterized and less attributed, aka looking for people who didn't know what they had. Your guide is insightful and encourages me to add as much info as I possibly can in terms of keywords so that buyers have a better chance of finding my listings.
I would argue that's also a large part of my approach to eBay, but I think that is a skill perhaps hard to teach -- it comes with time, knowledge, education, experience and generally spending a lot of time around vintage and antique things. My previous job was digitizing (wealthy) people's wardrobes and entering the attributes of each garment into an app - it taught me a lot about how people describe things/how they use search engines and 100% now benefits me when I'm digging for things online!
Completely agree! You also have to have a pretty obsessive interest in whatever you are scouring the web for, first knowing what to look for to get a REALLY good deal (especially if you are going to resell it), and also being okay with the fact that you will be spending hours digging through stuff you aren't interested in, and often walking away with nothing. Many people aren't vintage hounds on that level...which is why dealers can exist! Your previous job is something I didn't even know existed lol! But I can def see why it's helped you really hone in on your Dumps and curatorial eye.
1000%! There is a lot of depth and nuance and time invested in the vintage world I wish more people understood before they villainized it and put every reseller in the "as bad as a landlord" category...
Yeah, the world of the uber wealthy is pretty wild (had two clients that threw Eyes Wide Shut kind of shit lol.) Spent three years digitizing wardrobes (and insane couture archives) and styling AND packing for clients through an app -- very weird. I have many a story!
The landlord argument is usually from people who just wanna project their anger on someone without thinking rationally. Highly annoying tho considering any good we purchase is literally resold!! I could go on and on about that topic lol....
I'm sure you have some insane stories.... You are challenging my idea that all very wealthy people are extremely boring! 😂
I love this juju energy approach and I will be reframing my sadness over this material loss from now on and let destiny decide if I am meant to have the Donna Karan fireman clasp leather jacket of my dreams!!
The Utopia conversation will forever be my favorite Mad Men reference. This is an amazing breakdown of how to use eBay!! If I’m going to be scrolling anyway, I’d much rather it be this kind of content than the same Amazon finds over and over. Off to find my big fish!

Hope you catch a big one! (and immediately text me your finds)
Yessss!! eBay is so fun!! Maybe you’ll give us a part 2 for advanced eBay shopping??
Don't tempt me with a good time!! What would you like to see in a chapter II/would you consider "advanced"?
eBay is an heaven! I like how it is so untouched by growing capitalism in other platforms — gives a vibe of walking into a vintage stop!
Things might turn with the recent GameStop acquisition tho but still hoping the core values don’t change!
